Sports vision is the area of sport science dedicated to improving performance in sport. Professional teams in Major League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL) and National Hockey League (NHL) use sports science to gain a competitive edge. This article recently published outlines how the Seattle Seahawks have used data to become a winning club in the NFL since 2012. Who is the man behind the Seahawks sports science program? Dean Riddle. The team at Park Ridge Vision was able to meet Mr. Riddle at the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) annual meeting in 2018. The team learned the visual data used in the NFL to improve on field performance.
Visual areas evaluated in sports include eye-hand coordination, visual reaction time, depth perception, focusing speed and others. If there are areas of opportunity discovered then a sports vision program can be tailored to your athlete. Dr. Press has presented to the NBA on this very topic!
